I felt bad for the horse and his connections.I hope he has a win before he retires, but that might not happen. I am a fan of "Lava Man" and I still think he is a great horse.

  1. age is the factor/

trainer will find the right spot for a win

  2. So, Lava Man didn't win...boohoo!  Horses can't win all the time.  He keeps placing and coming in the money and to top it off he's a gelding.  I say they should let him run...maybe in G2's or G3's.  To me that horse is a born runner (and an absolute GREAT ONE for a claimer!) why would they retire him and make him a pony horse?  He keeps earning his keep and that's more than other so-called "racehorses" do.  I say let Lava Man run!!!

  3. This is thoroughbred racing.  Anything is possible.  It is the disappointments that define the triumphs.  Lava Man has many laurels upon which to rest.  If the owners and trainer decide that Lava Man has more racing ahead, true fans will await and enjoy the next appearance.  Should retirement be the decision, Lava Man has paid the way.  The record speaks for itself.

  4. I was disappointed with his performance. He has come in third twice since his layoff and his last place finish does not seem like him. Lava Man was training good but something just was not right yesterday. I hope he wins another race before he retires though. Tyler Baze put him in a good position and I thought he would just run and win the race. I am very much a big fan of Lava Man. The connections of Lava Man are thinking about retiring him and I want him to race again maybe on the Polytrack at Del Mar. I thought he was going to have the Eddie Read because he ran such a game third in the Charles Whittingham Memorial. Monzante, although, ran a very good race.

  5. When you think about it, his performance wasn't even really that bad.  He was 4 lengths off the winner... I've seen 2nd place horses finish farther behind than that.  It wasn't a win, but it wasn't the worst the horse could have done (can you say Big Brown and Belmont).  So he doesn't win Grade I races anymore... I know it's a step down, but what's wrong with trying in a Grade II?

Furthermore, I really don't think that Lava Man is at his best on the grass.  He prefers the dirt.  When they installed the synthetics in California, they really messed him up.  However, the Del Mar surface is running a lot more fair than it was last year.  I think they need to put him back on the synthetic at least for one more try.  He'll never get to prove he's a great horse if they don't let him.

I sincerely hope they keep racing him.

  6. he ran against some real good horses....

final time was 146......they were really running...

he needs to face some softer foes, to get his

    confidence back......
