First of all, I'm new to this. I was wondering, what is an eye shadow base and what's a primer.

I would also like to know what colors go good with my eyes; I have dark(close to black) eyes and a honey skin color and long eyelashes.

What color of eyeshadow and eyeliner too please!

  1. there are primers for everything. when i say that i mean your face, your eyelids and your lips. primers are what you apply to help your makeup stay on better.

an eye shadow base can be anything creamy. there are special eyeshadow primers like Urban Decay Primer Potion. or you can use a fluidline, paintpot or paint from mac. applying something creamy as a base to your eyeshadow makes it stay longer. depending on the kind of eye you want to do it can also help the colors appear brighter or more vivid (i.e. if you've got brown skin like me..a primer helps a bright color like pink or yellow appear brighter on my skin. or if you want to do a dark smokey eye, a black base like blackground from mac--the paint pot, can really help).

for your face, primers are a liquid that you can apply to help smooth your skin (it feels so nice and smooth after you apply it!) and helps your foundation adhere better. mac makes a clear one, whereas makeupforever and smashbox make clear ones, green ones, bronzing ones etc. for special needs. when applying a primer to your face you should moisturize (wait til its absorbed or if youre in a rush then blot your face with a tissue) apply your primer, then concealer and foundation powder etc

there are special lipstick primers..but i don't find a dire need for them. i simply moisturize my lips, apply my powder foundation over my lips (to "erase" them, and this acts as a primer) and then apply my lipstick.

as for your eyes, brown/dark eyes usually look good with purples and greens. you should try mixing it up and doing some purple or green eyeliner. for your long eyelashes..use a clear mascara to define them. there's no need for lots of mascara when your eyelashes are already so pretty! plus clear mascara is alot easier to clean/remove...so you won't destroy your lashes!

  2. An eye shadow base is a cream you put on your eyelids so that your eyeshadow doesn't get creased. and a primer is actually a liquid product you put on under your makeup that helps it stay all day and fill in the cracks and stuff to give you a softer finish. Arbonne sells an awesome makeup primer! it makes you look like you're air-brushed and your face feels like a feather!

all of Arbonne's color products are labeled with "W" "N" "C" to indicate warm, neutral and cool skintones. i got this off the website to help you choose:

Are you warm, neutral or cool?

    WARM (W)

Skin Color: Yellow, orange skin undertones Eye Color: Brown, green, hazel Hair Color: Brunette, red, blonde

    NEUTRAL (N)

Skin Color: Fair/light pink, olive, yellow skin undertones Eye Color: All Hair Color: All

    COOL (C)

Skin Color: Blue, pink skin undertones Eye Color: Blue, violet, gray Hair Color: Blonde, brunette

from your discription i would call you either a warm or a neutral. i am the same. the great thing with arbonne is that you can return any product within 45 days of purchase, used or not! just incase you decide you don't like the color on you.

check out my website for more information, and message me from there if i can be of any further help.

  3. a base it to put close to ur eyelashes and a primer is to colour ur eye lids.  prob. # 445 would go good with ur eyes and #498 for eyeliner!!

  4. Try Almay products. They have a set of mascara, eyeliner, and eye shadow that go with different color eyes. They also tell you how to apply it on the back.

I use the one for blue eyes, and it's really pretty.

  5. A base is like a MAC Paint Pot, lets say that you want to use a pink eyeshadow today and you really want it to stand out, then you would pick a pink eyeshadow base like Fresco Rose http://www.maccosmetics.com/templates/pr...

An eyeshadow primer makes your eyeshadow  more vibrant, less prone to creasing,  and stay on a lot longer, no fading. But an eyeshadow base can serve as the same purpose. Examples are

    Highend

    Urban Decay Primer Potion,

    Drugstore

    L'Oreal Decrease,

No 7 colour perfect eye shadow

A face primer smooths out the skins surface, a base for longer lasting make up, takes away shine (best for combo-oily skin), fills in lines and wrinkles, makes large pores look smaller, allows make up to go on smoother,

    Highend

    NARS Makeup Primer

    Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer

    Bare Escentuals bareVitamins Prime Time

    Laura Mercier Foundation Primer

Lorac aquaPRIME Oil Free Makeup Primer

    Sephora Professionnel Perfection Makeup Base

SheSieDo Makeup Sheer Enhancer Base SPF15

    Drugstore

    Monistat Chafing Relief Powder gel

    Sally Hansens Luminizing Face Primer

    Revlon Beyond Natural Smoothing Primer

  6. I have brown eyes that change between a yellowish brown and a red brown to a light black.  I use blue eyeliner and either blue or purple eye shadow.  The eye shadow base just makes the shadow stick better.  That way it won't smear as easy.

  7. Definitly black eyeliner, or you can use dark brown.

I think that golds, silver, and light colors, like pinks etc...

    Hope it helped!

  8. Wow, We Have Like The Same Face, I Have Brown Almost Black Eyes, Long Eyelashes, And A Honey , Olive Skin.

You Want To use black eyeliner, With Like A Purple Or Creamy Brown, That Glitters. You Put Only A Line Right About Your Top Eyelashes And It Dazzles, Try it, it Works!!!

  9. okay...I'm here to help you!

eyeshadow base is something that you put on before you put any eyeshadow or eyeliner on. it helps the eyeshadow from creasing or fading and it makes it last all day. The best kind is the one from Urban Decay. It's expensive, but it's worth it.

Primer is something that you put on before you put on your foundation. It  makes your foundation go on smoother and keeps it from cracking or wearing off during the day. You don't necessarily need eyeshadow base or primer, but it does make your makeup look better and last longer.

Okay, so for your eyes, I would have to say go with gold/brown eyeshadows. I would use a light gold (I recommend SIN by Urban Decay) all the way up to your brow bone. Then, get a darker copper-ish color and use it just on the lid just to the crease (I recommend CHOPPER by Urban Decay) and then...the crease. I think you should either use a dark green (MILDEW by Urban Decay) or a dark metallic brown (SMOG by Urban Decay) Take the dark color and put it halfway in your crease of and do a "V" shape on the out side of the eye. <O that is the best image I can do...lol pretend the O is your eye closed...so the dark crease color goes half way up your crease on top and halfway along your top lash line. Then, the most important part...blend! blend all the colors into eachother until they look evenly blended. As for eyeliner...I would use a black (ONYX by Stila) eyeliner on your top lid and on the waterline of your lower lid.

Hope this helps! If this doesn't make sense or you need more help, feel free to email me! :)

  10. well you really dont have to worry about an eyeshadow base and primer, i nevr do and evryone says im really good at doing makeup, so...i have the same color eyes but im a little paler in the winter (i get really tan in the summer tho) so you should use a purple or plum even a coral color eyeshadow with brown or black eyeliner, oh plus you could even pull off a cream colored eye liner, if ur not afraid to be bold!

the best colors to go with your eyes are basically most of the purple or plum colors, so really any of those but dependind on your hair color brunettes are good with purples and plums, so are blondes but blondes can also pull off more blues and bronzes! goooood luckk!! :)

  11. I LOVE makeup. i don't wear much but I'm really good at what i do wear. all my friends ask me to do their makeup for events and i love doing it. FIRST, you need good makeup, go to sephora or ulta and look for urban decay, stilla, or bare essentials. Primer is a white or clear cream you apply to your eyelid before you put on your shadow to make it stick and stay on. eye shadow base is the color that you put all over your eye first. (normally a light and shimmery color) You need a dark bronze for your eyes. First, use an eyeshadow brush to put a line of the bronze just on the crease of your eye. Then, use a lighter bronze to put on your actual eyelid. Lastly, use that eye shadow base to put right above your eyelid. dark brown eyeliner. Long lashes are the best it really makes your eyes pop when you wear the right mascara. You will look great! you have great features!
