  1. Shavers.  He had ridiculous power.  Foreman had awesome power too, but his unique swarming attack was a major factor in his offensive prowess.  Foreman would push you around, wail on you and overwhelm you.  Shavers had silly, one-punch power.

  2. VERY good question.  You deserve a lot of credit for the question alone.   Both hit harder than EVERYBODY.   George was a slightly BETTER Puncher in that he made better use of his power.   Neither ever used his power as well as he could have.

If anyone has worse stamina than young Forman it's Shavers.  Forman just never learned to pace himself.  Shavers just didnt have good stamina beyond 10 rounds.

Early in the fight,  for SHEER POWER,  I think Ernie has an edge.  After round 5 or so,  when both tend to become spent,  Forman carried his power in the later rounds better than Shavers.

Still, to answer our question,  the best way is to gauge power in ROUND 1 to 3.   That goes to Shavers by a close margin.

  3. Now this is a very hard question!  I remember Foreman literally lifting 225 lb Ken Norton off of the canvas with an uppercut and doing the same thing with Joe Frazier.  It would probably be a little bit like getting hit with a baseball bat with getting hit by Foreman.  His power is legendary and devastating.  Earnie Shavers is regarded by many as having the hardest punch in heavyweight history and certainly the harxdest puncher of any man that never won a title.  I will never forget his 1st round demolition of Ken Norton and his awesome punching power.  Foreman's punch was more from his great strength and Shavers from the way he threw it with such force both with equal results.  I have to call this a tie as it truly is really even as far as I'm concerned.

  4. Finally an interesting "who hits harder" question - and a difficult one.

I would say that maybe Foreman was the hardest hitter ever, but Shavers also had so many scary KOs over people I know could take a punch.

I'll use the two fighters' bouts against Ron Lyle be the deciding factor (not alone, but to tip the scale) Shavers knocked Lyle down, but not out. Foreman did.

Also, Foreman's punches LOOK different when they connect, if you ever noticed. Look at the other fighter when Big George punches.

    Scary.

  5. i would favour shavers, but only just.

  6. I have to go with Big George. Mainly because I haven't seen much of Ernie Shavers fights.

  7. I have a story for you in 1978 when Ernie Shavers was getting ready to fight Ali I was in camp with Ernie Shavers. I was a light Heavy weight at the time and I was a armature. I had never seen a pair of 20oz. sparing gloves but that is the size Ernie wore when he spared. Richie Gigetti brought me in for speed well there was another guy they brought in named LeRoy Diggs he was built like a Greek God Ernie hit Diggs with a over hand right and down and out the next day I did not come back if he could do that to Diggs I knew I was not getting in there and I can could fight. I,ve seen a lot of people get knocked out but not with 20oz gloves that is crazy based on what I know Ernie Shavers is the hardest puncher who ever lived. The camp was in this little town in West Virgina a town called Knoll.

  8. I think Shavers had a better straight KO punch. Foreman didn't really throw great punches. He was just so d**n strong that he would maul you to death like a big grizzly bear.

  9. They may well have hit equally hard but I have a feeling had they fought George would have been the one walking out of the ring.

  10. You have named the two hardest punchers in boxing history in my opinion. I would slightly favour Foreman myself although i do remember somebody saying that being hit by Shavers was like being run over by a truck.
