Who hostes a bridal shower for the bride?

I believe any female except the mother of the bride or the bride herself can host it. Usually an aunt, a close friend of the mother of the bride, or one of the bride's friends does. I've been to one where the mother of the groom hosted and two where aunts of the bride hosted.

Supposedly the MOH, however, if she fails to step up, the other bridesmaids, sisters, aunts etc.  It is also ok to have more than one, but theme them.  Like a kitchen/cookware shower, a lingerie shower (not for the older ladies, unless they are cool with that!) etc. and remember to not invite the same people to more than one.  People should not have to keep giving u gifts over and over.
