Who in here would care if Don't ask Don't tell was ended?

Hello again. I am Jake, a code pink peace involver, a student at UC Berkeley, and my boyfriend and I were discussing this just a few minutes ago after getting out of bed.

I believe myself it is true most of the Military would not mind if Don't ask Don't tell was ended, and g**s could openly serve. Now, I am not saying I would join the Military, that is not why I am asking this question. If you read my previous posts, you will know I would never, oh heavens no, join the Military, just not for me.

But, who in here would care, or would LIKE to see the policy ended and allow g**s to openly serve like they do in Europe?

Thank you sweeties, and I wish you all a great day

Muah

  1. I think it SHOULD end.  Its ridiculous now.

  2. h**l yeah.  Sign up.  IED's and snipers don't care if you're a homo or not.

It's your country too.  You should have to share in the risk of getting killed defending it just like the rest of us.

If not, then get back into the closet.

Yes, I am a pig.  Report me.  The military is not a place for your sick social experiments.

  3. I don't care one way or another!

  4. I live in San Francisco, and firstly, Code Pink drives me nuts.

As to your question, I DO NOT think they should lift the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" rule. Just imagine what life would be like for him and his fellow brothers and sisters if he was fighting over seas in a country like Iraq and word got leaked about him being g*y, he would be a HUGE target, putting his own life at more risk as well as his fellow soldiers.

They have that rule in place for a reason.

Also, a lot of soldiers do not approve of the g*y lifestyle, and they have EVERY RIGHT to not approve, and it is easier to keep homosexuality out of the Military by simply not talking about it or asking about it. That way, every solider is treated equal.

  5. I think even if it did end, g**s would still not say anything if they were smart. They would get made fun of a lot. I do think if someone is g*y they shouldn't have to be afraid of others finding out and them not getting the opportunity to serve their country but at the same time a flamboyant g*y would not be good. You would have to be a g*y guy who is still comfortable being a guy and not acting "g*y". Kind of like Broke Back Mountain.

All in all, I could care less if the guy is g*y as long as he has my back in a war and is willing to fight and die for his country.

  6. i would care, and i despise flaming liberal code pink college kids... and im joining the military in the future and would not want to see u or ur bf there and by u saying "thank you sweeties" i can definately tell ur that guy that walks around sanfrancisco in assless chats whoring around bars getting laid by men.... which is disgusting

  7. I would be rather upset about it being ended.  The simple fact of the matter is that the military is primarily composed of people with traditional Judeo-Christian values that includes a disapproval with homosexuality.  These people are free to have that belief and they are the ones who comprise the bulk of the military.  If homosexuals want to serve, that is fine, but they need to keep their sexual preference quiet to maintain morale and preserve the mission of the military.  This is particularly important at Basic Training where privacy is virtually non-existent.

You mention a discussion of American military values to that of other nations, which I think would be a very interesting comparison.  One thing to consider is generally how homosexuality is viewed in society in general, and how the homosexual culture represents itself.  I am one who has no particular issue with homosexuality, but I do have an issue with what I see as a totally inappropriate flaunting of it in society in very bizarre ways  such as the g**s cross-dressed marching down the road next to g**s in skimpy d********x outfits or the g**s who dressed in screwed up outfits and violated the sanctity of a Catholic church in San Francisco.  It is these totally inappropriate displays that perpetuate much of the dislike for the g*y culture.  If homosexuals would simply exist in society and not do extremely offensive things to draw attention to themselves knowing it is in complete conflict with the predominant social value system, they would find that people really don't care if they are g*y or not.

  8. It was already proven that soldiers who know there is a g*y person in their squad lowers morale. "Don't ask, Don't tell" is actually necessary. So, no, they can't remove it. Also, from the many soldiers I have talked to, they say the same thing. They say that it bothers them to have g**s in the squad or unit or whatever they're in. You need to be a MAN in the armed forces. Not a boy-loving wuss.

  9. The only thing different about g**s is what they do in the bedroom. That's all it comes down to. If a g*y guy wanted to serve his country, who are we or who is anyone else to tell him no? What grounds does the military use to keep g**s out?

To answer your question, I wouldn't care. Then again, I don't serve. All the soldiers would then have to go to special sensitivity classes and rules would be implemented on name calling and what not.

  10. You want to share a fox hole with me? While I am armed?

  11. I think g**s should be allowed to serve. Everyone's sexual orientationn is their own business and everyone should keep it that way.

  12. hello agian Jake.

Well i don't think that it would be a good idea for openly g*y men or women to serve in the US armed force's for the simple reasion that soldiers, sailors, marines and airforce personal have to live very close to each other and like you said in your question before, a lot of people in the armed forces are followers of the reglions of the world and in non of them do they have any kind of tolorince of homosexual people, and in fact i can think of one that hangs them if there found out.

A lot of people don't view homosexual with the same understanding as I. Although I'm in no way g*y. I still see it that you and your boyfriend have the right to love who ever you want and to sleep with who ever you want to. Now on the other hand i would not want to take a shower with you in a open shower or live with you or sleep in the same room, not fear of you "doing" somthing or hurting me in anyway, but the same reasion i don't want to shower with women that i'm not dating or expose myself to some one who might be attacted to me in any way that i'm not attacted to in return.

The other reasion is that i believe that it might be dangerus for a "openly g*y" person to be seriving. Look at this way, how long did it take you to come to terms and open up to your family and friends about you being g*y? you gave me two best answer awards for your friend that came back from Afghanistan. You could not even open up to him until that night and look how he took the surprize. Just imagin what it would be like to do that to your friends in Iraq or Afghanistan. "hey Jim. I heard that they got ride of the don't ask, don't tell thing. By the way i know we have been fighting with each other for a long time now and I'm g*y" what do you think would happen then? Friendship lost, and the most importent thing lost would be the trust they as commrads gained. It would be as if your boyfriend telling you that he is cheating on you and has been lying to you the hole time. Think about it and hope to hear from you soon. good luck.

P.S. did you ever try to talk to your sisters boyfriend agian? how did that turn out?

  13. I do not think that it has had much influence at all.

Today investigators can not 'ask' or dig. No big deal really.

I served with homosexuals before clinton, and I served with homosexuals after clinton.

    The UCMJ has not changed.

The US Congress debated and decided to include homosexual activity into 'sodomy' when congress made it law. Nobody outside of the US congress can change it.

    'Sodomy' is still illegal.

I have not heard of Congress even debating changing it. None of this is decided by DOD.

US service members can not fraternize [between officer and enlisted] it is illegal.

US service members can not have s*x [between male and female] onboard ship it is illegal.

There remain many things which are illegal to do in the military.

  14. I think they should be able to be open, but I don't want to see a bunch of ''flaming'' going on. It's bad enough you have to worry about your husband/boyfriend cheating with a woman let a lone a g*y man. Besides I don't want to be exposed to diseases...not that straight men can't get them but it's a well known fact that it's more concentrated with g*y men in particular. I am not trying to be mean  or anything I am friends with quite a few g*y men that are serving next to me.

As long as they serve ''openly'' with dignity and self respect I'm okay with it.
