Richie McCaw Forward and Dan Carter Back, I dont even know why someone who put Tait as an option he hasnt even done anything!!!  Lote Tuquiri is well off being the best, he has minimal influence in the game (though he does some good runs).A few South African players also but you have to be judged  on your time in the game, consistantcy is what makes a great player over a long period.

hard to answer this question as you cant really say someone is better than another when they play different positions.. however, if it's based on influence on a team.. then i would have to say atm its Dan Carter.. he's really hitting top gear lately and has been pretty consistent throughout..

dan carter and richie mccaw are head and shoulders above thier competition. although i think johnny wilkinson (when injury free) is just as good as carter, but lacking in support from his teamates. what i mean is, carter looks so d**n good thanks to the explosiveness of his centers and stability of his scrum half. johnny isnt so lucky.

a case would also have to be made for victor matfield as well, as the best lock, since he is peerless in the lineout. its just that lock is not a flashy always making plays position. no glory there, just workmanship.

choosing a single best player is an exercise fraught in futility as some players light can be dimmed depending on who they play. south africa plays a great team game and carter and mccaw don't shine so bright against them. not when you have schalk burger playing opposite mccaw, disrupting carter together with the scrumhalf.

id put those two as best, but it really depends on the day and who they are playing.

well as the person above said its a tough question but as I'm a  back i would have to say someone like Matthew Tait who is an allusive (cant spell) ball runner

or if it was a forwards probably someone like tom Rees who is a workhorse and powerhouse all in one.

This is a tough question because some players are try scorers like Lote Tuqiri, but there are also forwards that play their position well and have a big impact like Richie McCaw.

I'd have to say that Dan Carter is the best player in the world, but that's a little biased since I'm a Crusaders fan. He has a great combination of speed, great kicking ability, and grace under pressure. He always has a great impact in his games.

Daniel Carter is the best back, Richie McCaw is the best forward.

Say what you will about cheating in the rucks, EVERY flanker at that level does it.  Richie is just the best at it.

I think on current form you can't look any further than the welsh winger Shane Williams. His performances this season have been sensational, and if he played in the Australian or All Black backline he would be scoring three or four a game.

He showed what he could do against the springboks, who are renowned for having the meanest defence in world rugby by scoring a fabulous try in the 2nd test recently. He has sublime footwork, and a fantastic sidestep. He can just produce something from nothing, anyone who watched the 6 Nations this year will agree with that. He just beats guys for fun so easily. That is my case for current form. It's easy enough to say Carter, who yes is quality, but who's always going to have an easy ride behind a pack like the AB have, and quality players around him!

As of right now Richie McCaw. If you had asked me this a couple of months ago I would have said Carter but despite still being one of the best out-halves, he hasn't been up to his usual standard lately.

I would also agree with zacivich's comment about cheating and wing-forwards.
