It is an ancient invention that no single person can be attributed to the invention.

The Egyptians had the great lighthouse in Alexandria a lot longer ago than these last couple millenia. It is one of the wonders of the ancient world actually.

So nobody knows. And even if we did it would no longer be that relevant.
