Who invented chewing gum and how?

the first person that invented the chewing gum is thomas adams sr. he invented it at febuary 14,1871 at new york city. he was trying to find use for this stuff called chicle from mexico. it's this strech and the chewing gum stuff then he put it into his mouth and he likes it!!! <3
