  1. the diesel engine was invented by a guy named Rudolph Diesel;look him up on the Web

    once the technology was developed ( pretty much during and then right after WW2) diesel engines replaced steam boilers that ran steam engines; diesel was WAY simpler and cheaper and more efficient; you didn't have to boil water at many hundreds of ponds pressure and use that steam to drive pistons  and then cool it down and make it steam again........just an engine  like the ones in a truck or car...just WAY bigger......
