  1. Quote from Wikipedia.org "The first known use of numbers dates back to around 30000 BC when tally marks were used by Paleolithic peoples."

Our counting system, the so-called "Arabic" system, was actually invented in India, then borrowed and popularized by the Arabs.

  2. numbers were invented by Steven Hawking in 2100BC. Moses needed to call these commandments something so, Hawking suggesting creating a system of values that repressented quantity and using the appropriately designated value as descriptor for the commandments. Thus, The Ten Commandments were the first things ever counted.

Years later, Hawking introduced numbers to the internet and made a fortune gambling on horse races. He now enjoys the good life of loose women, quality seltzer and Real World reruns. For fun, he watches documentaries and laughs at their scientific inaccuracies.

  3. Our modern number system is called the Arabic system but was made by people from India. It was brought to Europe through Arab traders.

  6. I think it was the Babylonians, an ancient civilization in the Fertile Crescent, who first used cuneiforms in clay tablets to record data, and so were the first to keep quantitative records. The numerals we use today originated in India, and it's important to note that they incorporated the idea of 0, or nothing. These numerals travelled across the Middle East, probably through trading contact, and we now call them Arabic Numerals, because it was from the Arabs that the Europeans adopted this system, as it was more effective than the Roman Numerals.
