  1. Originally Greek.

  2. italian

  3. ITALIANS..

I had to do so much research on this to convince a few of my friends, it is ITALIANS!!!!

There was something that was pizza-like in greece and france, but the original pizza was ITALIAN.

  4. Marco Polo brought the ancient chinese recipe to Italy. The best and authentic pizza is only the italian one.American pizza is disgusting.

I know that cause i'm italian

  5. Hmm....think it was the Jews living in the south of Spain and when driven off, they came and settled in Italy and introduced what is today called Pizza!

The ones that we eat today is definately Italian!

  6. American, i am 100% sure!

    Americans?

  9. The Greeks did and the Italian did

  10. Invented by Italians - perfected by Americans! Italian pizza was a poor man's dish, a few toppings on your baked bread, a touch of tomatoes, a little cheese, some additional topping of whats on hand.

Load it up with the works for me please...and extra anchovies!!

(for those getting particular , I guess topping your bread with a sauce and other ingredients could be almost any culture!)

  11. I think it was the Italians. And that thing about Marco Polo is

FBS, and please pardon my french.

  12. Pizza was a poor men food made in Naples, Italy. It was mainly bread, olive oil and basil. The one that Americans are use to is not the original pizzas; they put a tomato sauce while Italians put tomatoes. Pizza is a great dish easy to change according to the regions it will be eaten.

  13. Pizza is one of those foods for which we will never know a specific origin. For one thing, the definitions of pizza are many and varied. Putting stuff on flat bread as a meal certainly goes back as far as ancient Rome. The word "pizza" itself appears just before 1000 AD, in the area between Naples and Rome, meaning "pie."

There are traditional pizza-like dishes in Provence where bread (or sometimes a pastry) is topped with onion, tomato, anchovies, and olives. In the Middle East, lahma bi ajeen is a pizza base with minced onions, meat, and flavorings.

So we need to start with some definitions. Shall we confine our attention to American pizza, now found throughout the world? If so, no problem--it was invented in America in the 1950s. That's probably not the answer you were looking for, although the New World did make possible pizza as we know it today.
