  1. It depends on the point of view.

In Brazil Santos-Dumont is considered to be the inventor of the airplane, because of the official and public character of the 14-bis flight as well as some technical points.

In USA and England, the honour of first effective heavier-than-air flight is most frequently assigned to the Wright brothers for their flight of 39 metres (120 ft) in 12 seconds on 17 December 1903 at Kitty Hawk in North Carolina.

  2. I think you will agree with me that it is annoying when people copy whole documents from web pages into Yahoo! Answers. Think of it, they COULD HAVE CHANGED A FEW WORDS TO MAKE IT INACCURATE.

It is a lot better to only give the website:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberto_San...

  3. Wright Brothers go USA

  4. Santos Dumont!

  5. The "invention of the airplane" was a development process going back to Davinci or there abouts. Lillenthal, Chanute and Montgomery all had flyable airplanes, but did not actually fly. The Wrights learned to fly, and as a result were the first ones to actually make a powered heavier than air flight. Glen Curtis actually built and flew the first airplane in the shape of today's aircraft with 3 axis movable controls. He also "sold" aviation. Santos-Dumont probably flew only because he was so small and light.

  6. With all of their trial & error through building different models, all of their testing on the bicycles, flying the tethered gliders,

their mathmatics & figurations, figuring out the flight controls like wing warping for the banking turns, building the enginge & props. ect., ect., ect.,......THE WRIGHT BROTHERS!!!!!!

  7. I agree, copying whole documents is not good. Here's the link, look under Controversy vis-à-vis Wright brothers: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alberto_San...

  8. the wright brothers
