However, some accounts reference the use of crude diving bell ideas, as far back as 332 B.C. by Alexander the Great, for the exploration of the sea. Other accounts say that, at the age of 11, Alexander the Great had used a glass and metal case to lower himself into the sea with a 600 foot chain
