Some of the Green people invented it. yes it is true that our planet is getting a little warmer but. I not the first or the last. We were a lot colder 10,000 years ago. in fact must of the US was not very nice to live on my State that is in the middle of the country had a sheet of ice on it. An Ice age could happen again if we had three or four major volcanoes eruption.  Check your recent history even one thousand years ago it was colder, but something people do not realize that almost ever year there were prairie fires that would burn across several state that California had major forest fires that burned till it rained or ran out of woods. Do you not think this caused tons of air pollution? The air is much cleaner now then 60 ago years. take a look at any picture of any major city and you see there is less pollution in the air. This planet goes threw cycles this is just one more of them. I am not say we do not have problems we need to go solar and we need brain dead congress to get off their *** and do something about it. We need the public to get involve. Trust me if we started rationing gas you would see all kinds of thing happen a quickly. If we put a ban on all vehical that do not get at least 20 miles to a gal.  Unless that you had a good reason to drive it like have kids to drive around. My Van stay park unless I need to drive more then myself around or have a load to move The person who drive a Hummer by themself for no reason should have to pay heavly for the privage and so should the guy that drive a 4 x 4 who is not a construction work or farmer and they should drive it in connection with thier work. Other then that all cars should get at least 30 mile to the gal. We were getting this type of mileage in the seventies and eighties there is no reason to get any less than that now.... Examples Grand Am, Toyota Camry Toyota Corrolla Ford Contour Chevy Cavalier all these got over 30 on the Hwy and better then 25 in the city.  Even the Ford Crown Vic. got more then 25 on the hwy These cars getting only 20 to 25 on the hwy should be banned and Toyota, Honda  Nissan Acra Lexus should be ashamed to put such vehicals on the road. These cars coming to America from a Country that does not want them on their own road. What more can I say about that...Shame on congress and shame on you if you buy one.

it only took us 4 degrees to get out of the last ice age. If the climate rises 3 degrees more about 30% of animals will be close to EXTINCTION. the scary part is we are close to 2 degrees.

It was Margaret thatcher in the 70's. Someone said that they thought maybe C02 might cause global warming, it was just an idea he had,and Mrs T wanted to get in to nuclear, so that started it, and now, the current Gov have realised they can get a lot of money and control from it. Now, as the temp hasn't risen since 1998, but actually cooled a little, they've changed it from global warming to climate change. And yeah, the climate is changing, but no body truly know's how or why, and maybe instead of blaming and charging, they should be finding thre truth and advising us on how to prepare.

The IPCC, they have been cherry picking bad research to intentionally paint a grim picture of an artificially warming climate with industrialized nations as the culprit. They have been caught lying, peer reviewing their own papers, stone walling climatologists that dispute their finding's and omitting research that links natural climate variability to much of the observed temperature oscillations. The AGW theory much to my surprise does not have any atmospheric data to support the model projections, however these very same models are used by the IPCC to project global regional climate scenarios 100 years into the future, along with policies to alter this hypothetical climate change. And lastly, as a result of the IPCC scare tactics many large tracts of forest are being cleared to make way for crops to be used for bio fuels with the ever present carbon neutral lifestyle as one the justifications for such a devastating environmental crime. One day the IPCC and their climate report will go down in history as one of the greatest mistakes made by humanity.

This was first though of by the British to get some nuks. But went on to become main stream. We have the technology to move past the carbon debate. We do not have time to go through the government red tape. With oil on the decline, we have to make massive changes, swiftly. But we have to take the time to get it right. We can not do this twice, or three times - like in the past; we have to put our money in the best return on investments and where we get multiple benefits. We have had most of this technology for 20 years but have not implemented it. We know what is cost effective; we know where we need better technology. Without governments mandating renewable resources that do not harm the environment, we are doomed. The fossil fuel depression with global warming will be the worst economic downturn in world history. But this is not doom and gloom; we have the ability to fix our mess and enough time. Solar Concentrating Electric Power Plants, wind, wave, small hydro-electric, geothermal, and nuclear energy are what we need. We must have a pollution surcharge where we pay the real price (health effects, global warming and cleanup) for oil, natural gas, coal, cigarettes, cooling towers, cars, trains and airplanes. Raising the price of fossil fuel today gives us more time to solve these problems and helps pay for the 20 Trillion Dollars worth of renewable energy over the next 10 years. Remember knowledge is power and this information is very powerful. Humans have 50 trillion dollars worth of stuff that runs on cheep oil, natural gas, or coal.

I attended the Focus the Nation at Sierra College on 1-31-08. The event was the 2% Solution, a 2% reduction over 40 years to solve global warming. Oil is a nonrenewable resource and we are running out-but not soon – anyone now want to pay $30 per gallon for gas. The problem is the oil will be gone in less than 30 years at present rates of consumption without projected increases and shortages (gone at least to run cars, heat homes, power electric plants or air travel). The 2% Solution is ok for the USA for a 10 year plan to cut 20%, but I would prefer a 5% Solution over the next 10 years for a 50% reduction. At the same time, we have to be building renewable energy so at the end of 10 years we can cut an additional 20%. With the peak of oil in the 1970’s, peak NG in the 1990’s, having mined cheep coal, the peak of ocean fishing in the 1980’s, and the peak of uranium in the 1990’s, humans must stop procrastinating and make real changes to keep earth sustainable including in the energy debate, finance and regulation. Over the next 90 years carbon dioxide is projected to skyrocket as human’s burn more fossil fuels, but we have to come up with what will take its place and cleanup our mess. One of the big problems we have is at some time Yellowstone will blow its top again, as the magma move closer to the surface, creating a nuk winter. After that we will not have to worry about the destruction of the ozone layer, global warming or pollution.

Many of mankind’s advancements cause earth surface to warm, destroy the ozone layer, kill off endanger species, heat cities, and in some way cause more dramatic destruction.  Blacktop and buildings (roads, roofs and parking lots-heat cities), deforestation (air pollution, soil erosion), duststorms (increase hurricanes and cyclones, cause lung diseases), fires (cause pollution, mud slides, and deforestation), refrigerants (like CFC's) and solvents (including benzene destroy the ozone layer raising skin cancer rates) and plastics; cars, airplanes, ships and most electricity production (causes pollution including raised CO2 levels and increased lung and other diseases); these human problems we must fix to keep life on earth sustainable! Humans have destroyed half of the wetlands, cut down nearly half of the rain forest, and advance on the earths grasslands while advancing desertification which increases duststorms.

The result is:  change is on the way, we just do not know what changes (where and when). Look beyond the hype, beyond the weather, beyond a quarterly report and beyond today. President Bush has made a choice of energy (ethanol) over food and feeding the starving people around the world; this is a choice China has rejected. The fact is Bush wants to buy food from out side the USA to send to starving people since our grain is not available. Now what USA Presidential candidate is giving you the facts so you can make an educated decision of which one to vote for?

But with that we must understand we have never seen what is now happening before. CO2 has never lead to temperature change, but temperature change has led to increases in CO2. The models have to be made as we go along with current evidence! But again adding a small amount of CO2 to the atmosphere enlarges the earths sun collection causing warming; increase water in the atmosphere and it forms clouds cooling earth but sometimes causing flooding. Even natural events are warming earth and causing destruction. The sun has an increased magnetic field causing increases in earthquakes (more destruction), volcanoes (wow, great destruction), and sun spots. Lighting produces ozone near the surface (raising air pollution levels). The USA Mayor's have taken a stand and I believe are on the right track, we can have control and can have economic growth. The sun is available to produce energy, bring light to buildings and makes most of human’s fresh water. Composting is the answer to desertification. New dams are the answer to fresh water storage, energy and cooling earth by evaporation, we need many small ones all over (California needs 100 by 2012 and we are far behind).

Global warming isn't a lie, so, of course, no one invented that part of it.

Global warming theory was first proposed by Swedish chemist Svante Arrhenius in the late nineteenth century, when he calculated (roughly) the effect a doubling or halving of atmospheric carbon dioxide would have on global temperatures.

The theory finally gained acceptance in the late 1930's when English engineer Guy Stewart Callendar postulated that the recently discovered rise in global temperatures could be explained by rising levels of CO2 from industrial use of fossil fuels.

The theory of anthropogenic global warming has been shape and built on by many scientists over the past century. The history is really quite fascinating and I encourage anyone who has an interest in science, whether you accept the theory or not, to read this brilliant account of the theory by physicist and science historian Spencer Weart. I don't think that anyone invented the lies they were just naive and unsure about what was really going on and why.  I think scientists noted the trend in temperature and C02 and thought it meant global warming.  

Politicians and corporate greed co-opted the movement and have created money making opportunities for themselves in the name of the environment.  Doesn't it sound like religious zealots (In the name of God etc. etc.)  I give them credit, they saw the way the tide was turning and they used that to their advantage.

The first laboratory experiment that proved conclusively that various atmospheric gases could trap heat was done by John Tyndall in 1859.  By 1896, Svante Arrhenius calculated that a doubling of CO2 should raise the planets average temperature by about 5 C.  Over the next 100 years, this science became well understood and accepted.  Then about 10 or 11 years later, you probably heard about it for the first time.  I'd recommend you spend some time actually reading about the subject and learning some science before you jump to such false conclusions as indicated by your questions premise.

Ignoring the bias in your question, there was enough concern about climate change about 20 years ago for the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change to be formed.  Governments nominated top scientists to be on this panel - many are from the US.  They have collaborated and produced four major reports and concluded that it is likely that the climate changes being observed are caused by global warming which is in turn being caused by a chnage in the energy balance where less energy is being radiated back to space.  It is thought, on reasonable scientific grounds, that the carbon dioxide and methane - the so-called greenhouse gases - are preventing this radiation.

There are literally hundreds of scientific peer reviewed papers quoted in the reports.  I have not seen any serious scientific evidence to suggest another reason for the climate changes which are taking place.

<BTW>  The first British Nuclear power station was commissioned at Calder Hall in about 1958 - long before Mrs Thatcher.

I live in Wisconsin and its been really cold here since the end of November of 2007. I have lived here all my life and it has been cold through the winter this is normal. But not like this, at lest the other years we got a break from the 0 to 30 below zero for a week or so during the winter. Not this winter season. Funny thing is around here on the news no one talks about global warming. It might be cause their listeners wouldn't be able to stop laughing
