  2. the first to market for home use was the Amana Radar Range, in 1967.

    it was fairly expensive, and not marketed well.

    when the patent expired, and anyone could make them, the marketing bloomed, and so did use.

    kind of like pc's in that respect.

    Apple's patents don't allow copies.

    IBM either didn't patent theirs, or the patents were not well written.

    IBM is no longer in the PC business.

    Amana is still in the microwave business, but have apparently catered to the commercial end.

    all of the microwaves you see have rotating trays.

    that's because the internal heating is irregular.

    turning the dish mostly fixes that.

    as you can see, Amana has a far more even heating pattern.

    so they don't need the turn table.

    we have a quite old (30 years) Quasar, which is also very even.

    i've tried a few times, and have not found anything new that i like nearly as well.
