I was just wandering when and who actually invented Aussie Rules, I suppose this question is mainly directed to Australians but who ever knows let me know please. Was it just one guy who decided to make an oval ball and started kicking it around or what?

  1. It was Aussies mate!

  2. Someone in here is right as it was Wills & it was to keep cricketers fit in the wet season. A copy of the original hand written rule book is in the MCG sports museum.

  3. Aussie Rules was a game that was developed in order to maintain Cricketers fitness in the winter months ...

It was a game that quickly developed it's own momentum ...

Now I am going to have to come back tomorrow and add an edit  as it's 10:30 pm and I have been awake since around 3am .. and my brain is on GO SLOW for releasing retained information ...

The name Harrison is ring a distant bell but i need to sleep to regain the information my brain's holding on to.

In the mean time.. I can reccommend a book called UP WHERE CAZALY .. it helped me gain a great passion for the game,

EDIT... Ok .. it was a game that developed from just a bunch of guys ( mainly cricketers) .. so I can't say who was the person that actually started it from it's roots... But A Mr Tom Wills formalised it somewhat  and his cousin Henry Colden Antill Harrison drafted the 1866 code of rules. The Melbourne Football club  had drawn up it;s rules in 1859.

The game evolved and various people have left their marks ( no pun intended) on the game....

ONCE AGAIN .. read the book UP WHERE CAZALY

It is really the only sport I enjoy watching.

  5. It's a cool sport and I watch it quite often, but I have no idea of it's history...I just like watching sports...lol!
