  1. more importantly.... how does one invert philosophy in the first place?

  2. Every philosopher re invents philosophy for the first time.

  3. It's hard to say really since different people will define a philosopher differently.

The rather elitist ones will say that you can only do philosophy if you are schooled in certain aspects of philosophy and are familiar with the 'big' philosophers (certainly from Plato and Aristotle). References could be made how the term 'philosopher' was ultimately coined by the Greeks and the 'sophists' were, technically, the first 'professional' philosophers (teachers).

Then there are those who say that philosophers are those who spend a serious amount of their time contemplating existence and the notion of truth. They have to be the semi-professionals who take philosophy further than just the odd bar table debate.

Finally, as I stand too, there are those who say that philosophy is merely the asking "Why?" Everyone is a philosopher if they only ask this question at one point in their life. Human nature and philosophy go hand in hand.

Therefore, I'd say, that the person who invented philosophy was, simply and unashamedly, the first person to ask "Why?"

  4. Machiavelli

  5. I don't think something like philosophy can really be attributed to one individual. I think from the very earliest origins of humanity philosophy has existed. I mean if we want to look at actual written history I would say the Sumerians.

  6. I assume you mean "invented" and will answer accordingly.

Philosophy wasn't invented. Philosophy was homo erectus wondering what those brilliant pinpoints of light in the sky were. Philosophy was Plato, Homer, the greats, wondering about the meaning of our existence, and the reality of the world around us. It was never invented. It simply was.
