In the above case the sound wave travels in the same direction as the air current travels towards the guy. Is he considered 'downwind'? and does he hear higher pitch or lower pitch with respect to the case if there was calm air?

  1. The guy is downwind, think of it like this, a person who is downwind will be able to smell what is upwind and the opposite is not true.  If you are upwind of something your smell will not be carried that way.

I do not believe that the wind will change the pitch of the sound.  YOu may experiance the doppler effect if the source or the listener are moving, but since sound moves much faster then any wind on earth it should not be effected by windspeed.
