repubblica.it - an Italian newspaper - alleges that it is Viscount Linley, although my Italian's not good enough to tell if they have a source. Apparently the other major 'leak' was from Nicholas Davies, an author on the royal family, in an interview with Fox News - the question there is, do you believe that he would know?

If it is Linley, a blackmail attempt does not necessarily mean there was anything blackmailable to begin with.  For me, the most interesting part of this story are the weird backgrounds of the two alleged blackmailers - see the 'thisislondon' source.

Constitutionally and politically speaking minor royals are small principalities, nobles (with their many different titles and statuses), and  other aristocrats that are possibly associated with the royal or noble families but aren't quite part of them.

Media wise, it's any royal or noble family that isn't in the news a whole lot, lol.
