My opinion is that Shri Jawarhalal Nehru was the greatest. He was an ardent supporter of the Mahatma, the father of 'Non Violence" and fought along with him for Independence from the British Empire. If not for them, India would not be where it is now.

Certainly Pt Jawarlal Nehru. But in the popular perception, Mrs. Indira Gandhi is still regarded as the most effective PM. Nehru took over at a very critical time, in the history of India. He successfully knit together the different groups of people and ensured harmony in a difficult juncture in the history of the country. He was a visionary. He laid the foundation for the rapid industrialisation of the country. Next comes Narasimha Rao. The seeds for globalisation was laid in India in his time. Indian economy was freed from the license raj and economy started looking up, after a slew of measures initiated under his stewardship which brought in more FDI into the country. India's potential for foreign investment was well exploited during his regime.
