Derrick Martell Rose (born October 4, 1988) is an American basketball player who was drafted in June 2008 by the Chicago Bulls. A 6'2"1/4 (1.89 m), 190-pound (86 kg) point guard, Rose has yet to sign a contract with the organization.

Rose was born in Chicago, Illinois and played for local Simeon Career Academy where he received national attention as a high school basketball player, leading the Wolverines to two state championships. Rated by professional scouts as the number one point guard prospect out of high school, he decided to play his college basketball for the University of Memphis Tigers. After declaring for the NBA Draft following his freshman year, Rose was selected first overall in the 2008 NBA Draft by his hometown Chicago Bulls.
