  1. An Earthkeeper is someone who understands how all life is tied together. An Earthkeeper has a special relationship with the earth and lives closer to it. You can recognize an Earthkeeper because the person carries a key chain with four keys on it; the "K" key represents Knowledge, the "E" key represents Experience, the "Y" key stand for Yourself, and the "S" key means Sharing. On the key ring, there are also one or more beads that indicate the level of training the Earthkeepers has attained. You can also recognize Earthkeepers by their actions, the ways they use energy and materials, and by their concern about reducing their impact upon the earth.

Prior to arriving at the Earthkeepers Training Centre, each class receives a map and a letter from E.M. (pronounced "em" as in them) inviting them to be trained as Earthkeepers. E.M. is the "Keeper of the KEYS" whose secret identity is revealed individually to the participants as they complete their Earthkeeper training and receive their fourth key back at school.
