Who is Herbert R. Axelrod?

Herbert R. Axelrod is the author of many of the tropical fish books that helped make tropical fish keeping a popular hobby in the last 40 years.  His book Exotic Tropical Fishes is a fish keepers bible and is a wonderful reference guide with information on every facet of aquarium fish keeping.  Dr. Axelrod also was the President and Executive Editor of the Tropical Fish Hobbyist magazine.  This popular magazine was sold in nearly every fish store back in the 1970's and 1980's and is highly collected today.  Before we had the internet, hobbyists read books and magazines to learn how to keep and breed fish.  If you are serious about your fish and really want to learn more about them, invest in some books and magazines and start building a library.  The information is available thanks to Dr. Axelrod and his contemporaries.
