Who is Jacob Black in the book Twilight?

I read it a couple of summers ago and I am about to read New Moon but before i do i need to refresh my memory and I dont really remember reading anything about a guy named jacob black...who was he?

in twilight he is just a device used to tell bella about the legend of vampires and the cullens but in new moon he becomes a huge character

Jacob Black is the kid at the bonfire who tells Bella, about the "cold ones" [aka the cullens or vampires]

His also Billy black son, Charlies [bellas dad] best friend.

Jacob Black is Billy's son and is a member of the Quileute tribe.  Billy and Charlie (Bella's father) are very good friends.  Jacob shares stories of "the cold ones" with Bella during the first book and will become a major character by the end of the series.

jacob black appeared in twilight when bella went to la push to attend the bonefire, and he is also a family friend (his father billy is bella's father charlie's friend)he always came to visit bella when they were young with his sisters she remembered nobody but his sisters at the time because she was very young, jacob is 14 year old when he met bella at twilight when she was 17 year old, that's why she couldn't remember him because he's too young. jacob was the one who actually made the Cullens' identities being vampires known when he told her of the old legend of the cold ones and why were always unliked by the Quielettes and unwelcomed to their land, that's how she proved the Cullens were vampires.
