Is that a name? Where did the company get their name from? I don't think it's a person, but I just want to make sure.

The cosmetics line was founded by T.L. Williams and was named for his sister, Maybel.  (As in Maybel Line, but named Maybelline.)

Actually I just read up on this a couple days ago. I forgot the year, but one day an older brother of the sister Maybelle, saw her mixing vaseline & coal dust together and putting it on her lashes.  He began experimenting with the mix and later devolped it into a makeup line of mascara...which her named after his sister, Maybelline.
