  7. The Queen Elizabeth that people talk about now is Queen Elizabeth II, who lives in England.  She is the queen of the U.K., and a few other countries around the world, such as Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc., that were former colonies of the U.K.

She's a figurehead, and has little political power, and no political power in most of the colonies.  You can find details on wikipedia or and encyclopedia.

One of her sons is Charles, who was married to Dianna, the famous princess.

After Elizabeth dies, Charles has the right to take the throne, but will likely give that to his oldest son.

If not the richest, she's one of the richest women in the world.  She owns a lot of property, nice castles and such.

She's married, but her husband isn't the king.  That's because she's the daughter of a king, so her rank is considered higher than her husband's.

Queen Elizabeth I was around when Shakespeare was writing, about 400 years ago.  The lineage is a bit complex, but Elizabeth II of today is somehow related to her.

  8. Queen Elizabeth is the current queen of England.

The other one (there were only two) ruled several hundred years ago.

  9. Queen Elizabeth II of the Royal House of Windsor's biography from the site http://www.royal.gov/uk says:

"The Queen is the fortieth monarch since William the Conqueror, and is also the great-great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria.

The Queen is Head of State of the UK and 15 other Commonwealth realms.

The elder daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, she was born in 1926. She became Queen at the age of 25, and has reigned through more than five decades of enormous social change and development.

The Queen is married to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and has four children and seven grandchildren.

Her Majesty is 38th in direct line of descent from Egbert (c. 775-839), King of Wessex from 802 and of England 827 to 839.

She is the fortieth monarch since William I (William the Conqueror), and also the great-great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria.

The Queen was born at 2.40am on 21 April 1926 at 17 Bruton Street in Mayfair, London.

She was the first child of The Duke and Duchess of York, who later became King George VI and Queen Elizabeth.

At the time she stood third in line of succession to the throne after Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), and her father, The Duke of York. But it was not expected that her father would become King, or that she would become Queen.

The Princess was christened Elizabeth Alexandra Mary in the private chapel at Buckingham Palace. She was named after her mother, while her two middle names are those of her paternal great-grandmother, Queen Alexandra, and paternal grandmother, Queen Mary.

The Princess's early years were spent at 145 Piccadilly, the London house taken by her parents shortly after her birth, and at White Lodge in Richmond Park.

She also spent time at the country homes of her paternal grandparents, King George V and Queen Mary, and her mother's parents, the Earl and Countess of Strathmore.

In 1930, Princess Elizabeth gained a sister, with the birth of Princess Margaret Rose. The family of four was very close.

When she was six years old, her parents took over Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park as their own country home. In the grounds of Royal Lodge Princess Elizabeth had her own small house, Y Bwthyn Bach (the Little Cottage), which was given to her by the people of Wales in 1932.

Princess Elizabeth's quiet family life came to an end in 1936, when her grandfather, King George V, died. His eldest son came to the throne as King Edward VIII, but, before the end of the year, King Edward VIII had decided to give up the throne in order to marry the woman he loved, Mrs Wallis Simpson.

Upon his abdication, Princess Elizabeth's father acceded to the throne as King George VI, and in 1937 the two Princesses attended their parents' coronation in Westminster Abbey.

Princess Elizabeth was now first in line to the throne, and a figure of even more intense public interest. "

She ascended the throne upon the untimely death of her father,King George VI,February 6,1952.

Read more about her at the site listed above, Buckingham Palace's official site http://www.royal.gov/uk  for the full treatment.

You can also check the hisrtoy section there to find out more about Elizabeth I as well. Here's a sample from her biography:

    "ELIZABETH I (r. 1558-1603)

Elizabeth I - the last Tudor monarch - was born at Greenwich on 7 September 1533, the daughter of Henry VIII and his second wife, Anne Boleyn.

Her early life was full of uncertainties, and her chances of succeeding to the throne seemed very slight once her half-brother Edward was born in 1537. She was then third in line behind her Roman Catholic half-sister, Princess Mary. Roman Catholics, indeed, always considered her illegitimate and she only narrowly escaped execution in the wake of a failed rebellion against Queen Mary in 1554.

Elizabeth succeeded to the throne on her half-sister's death in November 1558. She was very well-educated (fluent in six languages), and had inherited intelligence, determination and shrewdness from both parents.

Her 45-year reign is generally considered one of the most glorious in English history. During it a secure Church of England was established. Its doctrines were laid down in the 39 Articles of 1563, a compromise between Roman Catholicism and Protestantism. "

  10. They are ALL wrong. She is NOT the Queen of England. She is also the Queen of Wales, Scotland, northern Ireland, Canada, Malta... etc loads of other places.

She is Head of State and one of the most powerful women in the WORLD.

She can declare war or peace when ever she wants and is one of the last Monarchs in the World with such power.

  11. The late Princess Diana's ex-mother-in-law.

The future King of England's mommy.

The grandmother of Will, Harry, Beatrice, Eugenia, Louise (Edward's daughter) and Anne's two adult children: (boy) and Tara Philips

  12. The first one was Queen of Great Britain and Ireland, etc back in the late 1500s/early 1600s. The second one is the current queen of Great Britain, etc (just Northern Ireland) since 1952 and going strong at age 81.

  13. The current Queen Elizabeth is HRH Queen Elizabeth II who descends from the House of Windsor. Queen Elizabeth I who reigned in the 16th century was the daughter of King Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn whom he divorced and was considered to be illegitimate because at that time Henry had not separated England from the Catholic Church and asked the Pope to annul his marriage to Boleyn so he could marry wife #3 thus making Elizabeth's birth illegitimate.

  14. The Queen Elizabeth now is Elizabeth II, the Queen of England.

    It's on Wikipedia.

  15. Yes there are only 2 the reigning Queen is Queen Elizabeth the second, (named after a boat). But, as Amy pointed out, her mother, also named Elizabeth, was known as "Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother". But she was only a Queen in the sense that she was married to the King. So she doesn't get to have a number after her name.  Does that make sense? lol.

  16. Okay, there have been two Queen Elizabeths. (For Briton that is.)

Queen Elizabeth l was born in 1533.

  17. There are/were two Queen Elizabeths and another who wasn't actually Queen - it was just a marriage title. Elizabeth I was around in the 16th Century and was famous for never marrying and was the queen of ENGLAND. Our current Queen is Elizabeth II who is queen of the UNITED KINGDOM and the Commonwealth. Her son Charles will become King when she dies and his son William when he dies. The third Queen Elizabeth was the current Queen's mother who got the title when her husband was crowned King George VI.
