Through the years, I have used this poem as my:

ODE TO VARIOUS JACKASSES

Prosper really hated this guy.

“A scribbler vile, inflamed with hellish spite,

Against the great Augustine dared to Write;

Presumptuous serpent! from what midnight den

Durst thou to crawl on earth and look at men?

Sure thou was fed on Britain’s sea-girt plains,

Or in thy breast Vesuvian sulphur reigns.”

  2. St. Morgan of Wales, aka Pelagius Britto. See http://members.tripod.com/cornwall_phoen...

  3. He is writing about an obnoxious critic.  Or another sort of jackass!

  4. Apparently he is talking about various jackasses...Faceless, cowardly jackasses.

  5. Persons of this ilk live even unto today. It will be ever thus. Were it not so, we would be living in Heaven--not on the Earth.

  6. More importantly, who are you talking about?.  Let's see, very vague...hidden, ah, perhaps a four letter word comes to mind.  A word that echoes through the halls of sophomoric tripe.

  7. And who is Bede speaking to by including this in his history?
