  1. Political writer & publicity man who died August 28, 1990.
    Townsend Kieffer was instrumental in the development of the Conch Republic, starting with the road blockade that was staged to protest the state of Florida's intent to tax the keys unfairly, as well as Fantasy Fest, which he chaired in 1982, and turned into a 2-week. His ideas still live on in the beautiful Florida Keys today.
