Winky Wright comes to mind, I think he has a lot to contribute to boxing's future.

  1. Winky Wright, Bernard Hopkins, Floyd Mayweather

  2. Most of the fighters that have been mentioned so far all have something 'different' about them.  Hopkins is a dirty, dirty fighter, Mayweather is just a phenom, Calzaghe is extremely unorthodox.  I think of all of the above, Winky or McCullough would be best placed to become trainers.  I feel the others, whilst probably having a firm grasp of the fundamentals, have been fighting in their own respective styles for far too long now.

I'd hate for Hopkins to ruin young fighters' chances at greatness by telling them to wrestle and headbutt their way to victory.

  3. Bernard Hopkins and Micky Ward

  4. I think it is very rare for elite fighters to become trainers just like it is very rare for elite players of any sport to become coaches.

Also, guys like Winky, BHOP, Floyd, Oscar etc. they are all multi-millionaires and will likely venture down the road of promoters or the business end of boxing rather than remaining in the ring at some capacity.

I think the more "work-horse" like fighters are suited to be the best trainers.

I agree that Micky Ward would be a good candidate but he's not really a current fighter since he's retired.

I'll say out of "current fighters"; Wayne "Pocket Rocket" McCullough. Yeah he hasn't fought since 2005 but technically he's still a current fighter and he was going to fight in December 2007 but his opponent Kiko couldn't make the weight.

Also Emanuel Augustus - the MOST entertaining boxer in the world!

  5. Oscar

  6. Bernard Hopkins, Joe Calzaghe

  7. I agree, Winky Wright and of course, Floyd Mayweather Jr. He is undefeated and by the way it seems, he will be that way for a very long time.

  8. A good trainer needs good knowledge of the sport.  However, even more importantly, he should be well understood.  Buddy is well spoken.  He fits well into the role of trainer and is becoming one of the best.

Zab Judah would be one of the worst.  To listen to his post fight enterviews is painful.  By the time he's done saying  "Ah mean um, Um, you know'm sayn?".  The viewer has already forgetten the question.

No Zab.  I speak 4 languages but I haven't a d**n clue what just came out of your mouth.  The bottom line is that a trainer should be well read and understood.

  9. I think Sam Soliman would do well, he knows the sport well & also all the aspects of it including the conditioning & nutrition part of it.

  10. i agree winky would be perfect
