Who is at fault in 4 car crash?

I was involved in a 4 car crash the car in front of me put on brakes, i put on brakes but before I had fully engaged my brakes a 18 wheeler had hit me in the rear. The 4th car was hit from behind by the car in front of me. Who is at fault only the 18 wheeler was cited for following too closely.

From the looks of things the driver of the truck was at fault for causing the wreck. Did you get a copy of the police report? If so, read it. If not, get one and an attorney.

The semi driver would be at fault. He made the first collision contact resulting in the rest of the collisions. And since he was the only one ticketed the blame would automatically go to him.  Hope there were no serious injuries.

It used to be that each car paid for the damages to the car in front of them that they hit....for not being in control and following too closely...It's likely that the officer decided through his investigation that the tractor/trailer pushed everyone into each other... Keep in mind that they DO NOT have to cite anyone, it is a judgement call and in this case his judgement was that the commercial driver was at fault...

it would be more fair for him to have not cited anyone, and let the insurance companies battle it out...thereby possibly saving the drivers job...

The 18 wheeler was at fault in law, however next time you can avoid an incident like this by reacting to what you see in your mirrors....

Vehicle too close behind = increase your distance from the car in front: then, if you are required to brake, you are able to brake more gently, resulting in no concertina effect....et voila, you've helped yourself and other road users!

It sounds like the 18 wheeler is indeed at fault.  If he had not of hit you none of the other crashes would have happened.
