Barack Obama's previous name. It was the last name of his step father. He was Barry Soetoro while in Indonesia, where he was registered in school as a citizen and a Muslim. All facts by the way.

That was Obama's last name when we was about 8-10 years old.

Obama didn't really have a choice in the matter of his last name when he was 9 years old.  His step-father was paying for the boarding school they shipped him of to.  After he was able to come back to Hawaii, when he lived with his grandparents, he went back to Obama.

My grandmother and her siblings have documents from their school days, after my great-grandmother remarried.  For a few years, while they were younger, they went by their step-father's last name.
