Undoubtably its Dada aka Sourav Ganguly, many people disagree with this. But, people let me tell you when he took over the team the best batsman in the world refused to captain the side. The side effected by the storm called match fixing and in those times we use know only only about 14 to 15 international players. Dada was the one who introduced players like Zaheer, Kaif, Yuvraj, Sehwag and made Bhajji a regular memeber of the team. He also consistently won test matches abroad. Moreover, records shows he is the best captain.

Kapil Dev . though i hav not seen the games led by the legend. But still i vote him the best coz, it was all due to his capataincy , Indian cricket came across the likes Ganguly and Dhoni. had he not won the world cup , Indian Cricket would not have risen to this extent.

I'd vote for Kapil.  Reasons, under his leadership only we have won a world cup, which none of the others have been able to do, in spite of such a pampering/attention given to all these captains these days.

did kapil had a fielding coach separately, bowling coach separately or foreign coach?  Also who can forget the famous 175 when the team needed captain to deliver, so badly.  I'm always a fan of those players who play almost single handedly and win matches.  Thou we have players of great names Sachins, Dravids, Sauravs, Dhonis, none of them have been able to bring world cup back.

So my all time favourite is the Hariyana Hurricane, who was a real hero on the field and will continue to inspire and a great role model!
