Sorry red sox fans if spell his name wrong.

I rather have the opinion of person who doesnt like either team.

im a yankee fan and i think Cano is better cuz he hit like .340 in his second season (somwhere near there) and he is a second half hittter and when he hits the yankees win.

Who do you think will have the better future?

I need other people's opinions but i honestly think it will be Pedroia cuz Cano should be a #3 batter but he will bat #7 in the yankees lineup and Pedroia bats #2 in the best of the boring lineup.

  1. Pedroia, if you've seen him play in July... d**n! He was on fire!

  2. Like the others said Pedroia is the more consistent player but Cano has the chance to be outstanding

  3. c

    n

    o

  4. d-ped..

  5. Chase Utley

  6. Not an easy question to answer.

First, lets consider where they bat in the batting order. As of right now and probably for the next few years, Cano will be somewhere near the 6 or 7 spot in the lineup. Behind Cano in the lineup will usually be some less than stellar hitters, lets say in Melky Cabrera and sometimes a backup. Up until the acquisition of Pudge, Cano had Jose Molina, Melky, and Brett Gardner usually behind him, who averaged a whopping .211 BA, with 3 HR and 18 RBI. Last year, he usually had the likes of Melky and Shelly Duncan or someone else batting behind him who didnt fare much better. Pedroia on the other hand, bats 2nd. Last year, when he batted 9th, his average hovered in the .240-.260 range, but when he moved to second, he surged his way up to the .330s and eventually leveling off at .317. Up until the Manny trade, he had Manny and Ortiz hitting behind him, or at least Manny. Manny averaged a .299 BA, 20 HR, and 75 RBIs the past 2 seasons with the sox and Ortiz although he hasnt played much and his stats are down, hit .332 with 35 HR and 117 RBI last season, and is a fierce and fierce hitter in the lineup. Now Pedroia has a great hitter, Jason Bay, and a good hitter in Kevin Youkillis behind him. Who do you think would get the better pitches to hit: the guy with no one special batting behind him or the one with a Hall of Famer and a great hitter behind him?

However, batting order can't really show anything definitive. Let's look at career stats and some splits. Both are good hitters home and away, with Cano being the better away hitter, with a career .312 average away from Yankee Stadium and a .295 home average. Pedroia is a better hitter at Fenway, batting .317 there and .296 away. As it was said before, Cano is a notorious 2nd half hitter, hitting .335 after the break (and .280 before), while Pedroia hits .294 in the 2nd half and .316 in the first. Again, nothing really definitive because Pedroia has only played one season and both are still very young.

One of the most important assests a player can have is hitting in the stretch one. Cano has done this consistently, batting .365 in September and October. We don't know what to expect from Pedroia yet, but he batted .276 last September and October.

Now let's look at average with RISP. Cano is a career .275 hitter with RISP, while Pedroia is, so far, a .255 hitter.

Now we will look at clutch performance. With 2 outs and RISP, Cano is a career .253 hitter. In tie games or games that are late and close, he bats right around .295. Pedroia only bats .205 with 2 outs and RISP, but he excels late in the game, batting around .325 in tie or close games.

Defensivewise, Cano has a career .982 fielding percentage. So far in Pedroia's career, he owns a .988 FP.

Really though, it all comes down to personal preference. I think Pedroia, although he is very good, won't enjoy the success Cano will. I think his swing, although fine for now, is just too much of him going up there, hacking and swinging violently. I think it will eventually catch up to him and he will need to make adjustments. I think he can make some adjustments but I don't think he will be as successful as Cano. Plus, I really don't like his attitude. He seems like a jerk a lot and I'm not a big fan of it.

Being a Yankees fan, I like Cano better. And in my opinion, he will ultimately be a better player. He plays solid defense, has a beautiful swing, and seems like a great person and player. Plus, when you draw comparisons to Rod Carew, you could be a very special player.

  7. Dustin Pedroia, no question.

  8. Cano's the better player.  Pedroia does more for his team though.  And fields better.

  9. Cano

  10. i think it's pedroia.

-he won the rookie of the year batting .317 through 139 games in his first full season

-he's batting .317 through 111 games this season with better power numbers. he'll never hit 25 homers or anything, but improvement is there.

cano is very under rated, i'll give him that. but i don't think he's better than dustin.

-call him a second half hitter all you want. he's batting .262 there's no way around it. his .342 in '06 was great, but he followed it up with .306 in '07 and now .262 in '08.

-his 97 rbi last year was great. but he's only at 53 right now and his previous high of 78 is looking like something he won't do again this year either.

it seems like cano has leveled off as an above average second basemen, while pedroia already is and has the potential to get much, much better. give credit where it is due. he's following up the a rookie of the year season with an arguably better season. cano has followed up his good year with worse years.

  11. I've always thought Pedroia was better. Cano doesn't really impress me, and never has.

  12. Cano easily. Pedroia im my opinion didn't deserve to be an allstar or win rookie of the year.

  13. it has to be dustin........dustin is coming up in the front of the line up ...he has a chance to get the fire started ......he's very fast.....cano ...is all the way at the bottom ....i just dont kno .....

  14. cano has more power.

cano may be a second half hitter, but pedroia has been hitting all year, i say.

  15. Before this year I would have said Cano hands down... but now I think I would rather have Pedroia.

  16. Pedroia

I don't like either team but if I had to choose one, I'd take Pedroia.

  17. Ian Kinsler beats both

  18. cano has more upside

pedoria is a more consistant player

as you see sometimes cano is on and off

sometimes he can be dominant some times he looks terrible

i think that in the future(about next year) cano will be the #3 hitter which will make him better

cuz he will drive in 100 runs as a #3 hitter

  19. Dustin seems to be a gritty, scrappy player.  Guys like that are annoying pests to play against.  They are les likely to go into prolonged bad streaks. but are able to sustain a hot streak for a bit.  Cano is a bit streakier.

I like consistency, give me Pedroia.

  20. yeah dustin pedoria. he ownss. he is also my favorite player so i kinda have to say thattt/

  21. quick and to the point cano is better but dustin is a raising player and will get better at hitting even though he is good at that now lol
