  1. Anybody can be good in chess but mostly guys play chess and i am not saying that girls can't play it is just that the majority is guys.

  2. I think the average chess-playing male is better than the average chess-playing female.  However, there is considerable overlap.

It is true that Fischer made that remark about giving knight odds or better to any woman and still winning, but when a woman (I believe it was one of the Polgar sisters) took him up on it, he refused to play.

  3. Girls...

  4. suck a sexist question women are just as good as guys at everything just guys do some things more

  5. it depends

  6. Your question might be better worded as "Who is more interested in chess, guys or girls?"  Girls don't seem to be as interested in chess as guys, but I know a few girls who play very well.  When girsl are interested and want to learn to play chess and become good at it, they do as well as guys. It just doesn't seem to be a game that is appealing to a lot of females.

  7. guys...but thats because girls dont really wanna p;ay

  8. You can't really say who is better at chess, because it depends on how much he/she knows about it. for instance a guy could know nothing about chess while a girl could every single thing. on the other hand a girl could know nothing about it and a guy could know every single thing. so..... it depends. you cant generalize it.

  9. Guys because most of the master players (if not all) are guys. I'm not saying all guys are better than girls, just statistically they are.

  10. Chess tends to be a lot more popular with guys... I remember going to a tournament and there were only like 6 out of 200 people that were girls...

However, it really depends on the person. You can have a little 10-year-old girl play a grown man and beat him in 4 moves. (I've seen it happen)

  11. Guys.

Studies have shown that men possess more pent-up mental aggresiveness, killer instinct, and desire to psychologically crush the competition as compared to girls. Chess (and in fact all form of sporting activities or mental games) provides an excellent outlet for guys to vent this explosion. Hence men are better at sports and games than women.

Of course the physique helps, too.

Perhaps Bobby Fischer's assessment best describes the fact in chess terms: "Women are stupid. They can't play chess. I can give Knight odds to any woman on the planet and still win."

    Not my words, mind you!

  12. You can't say which gender is better.

  13. Guys are better for a variety of reasons. In no way do I intend to be sexist, but on the highest levels, men are better. There are many highly ranked women that have even earned the title of grandmaster, the highest rank achievable (behind the unofficial super-grandmaster). However, there is no suspician of a glass ceiling in chess and it appears that women generally have a different psychology.

One thing that I remember is a test in which men and women were instructed to listen to one specific story while two audio tapes were playing. The men scored higher on a quiz following on the story they were instructed to listen to while the women scored higher on the quiz given about the story they were instructed to ignore. This implies that women are better at multitasking while men can focus on specific things; chess in this case.

  14. guys because Guys are deep thinkers

  15. It depends upon individual intelligence & experience in playing that game.....

  16. Depends upon how the intelligence of the person and his/her amount of practice. A generalization can't be made.

  17. If you are asking which mind is better, then they are equal.  You basing that "males" are better simply because their are more male grandmasters has *nothing* to do with the fact that men are inherently better at the game, but that society expects them to be better and parents encourage them more.

For centuries woman have been held back by law from reaching the potential.  The laws may be gone, but the society hasn't changed in some respects.

When I was playing scholastic chess, I was an extreme rarity, and for that reason, I had some advantages.  The "boys"  I played had their minds in other places that the board in front of them.

In the end, if society had not programmed little girls that they should think only of make up, boys, and cooking, you would see a lot more female grandmasters.

  18. Guys only because of the HEAVENLY Albert Einstein
