It's all a matter of perspective and goal.

If you just need someone killed, ninjas are your guys.  If you need to kill, plunder, and party, you really need to hire some pirates.

Generally, ninjas smell better than pirates, while pirates have access to a wider variety of booze (beer, rum, whiskey, and port vs. sake).

As far as dress, it's really a toss-up.  Ninjas look snazzy in their outfits and black is very flattering.  However, pirates epitomize thrift-store fashion and making a personal statement with wardrobe.  Ninjas generally accessorize with lots and lots of cool weapons while pirates commonly affect a parrot, eyepatch, cutlass, and/or pegleg.

Finally, ninjas are better for infiltrating enemy fortifications, while pirates sail the open sea.
