  1. the apache is more sophistocated but the mi-28 is more rugged

  2. wanabe pilots and crewchiefs dont recognize the Havoc from Hind, do they?

I believe the Apaches are better fitted for nighttime operations. I am not aware of how the recent NVG systems from Russia look like, but those I have seen are awfull.

the ATGM Ataka and Vikhr seem to be valid counterparts of Hellfire.

I dare say the key element in the decision would be where do you want to operate them, and what budget you have to fit into. Certainly the AH64D is not an optimal solution for a low cost Air Cav unit.

summary: if you are in for a high tech helicopter witht all those datalink gadgets etc, flying nighttime, high threat enviroment in cooperation with NATO/ US, go for apache

if you build and AirCav unit from scratch, go for the Havoc, it would provide a generation leap forward from Hind for a reasonable price.

  3. depends on the battlefield.  The hind was desinged to operate without airfields in the most inhospitable terrain and still fly.  The apache was designed to kill efficiently and without being detected.  They both are tough and fast but the Apache is more manueverable with better weapons systems.  On an even playing field and all things being equal, I believ the apache has a slight adavantage over the hind just because of its weapons and avionics.
