  1. A daemon is a program that works behind the scenes on a server, doing useful things.

  2. I think you mean the Mail Demon or Mail Daemon.  It's an automated program that sorts emails going through a server into individual mailboxes.    your getting mail back because the user name isn't found, the mailbox is full, or for some reason mail from your domain is being blocked.

  3. computer generated mailman...

  4. I think you mean 'demon mailer'.  This is a software part of the email delivery system, not a real person.  It evaluates the email address to which you have addressed your email.  If it find (resolves) the email address, it automatically forwards your email to the correct mailbox.  If it cannot resolve the email address, it sends a message back to the original sender to inform them that the email could not be delivered.

You could look at this as a kind of 'return-to-sender' like the postal service has.

If you get one of these 'return-to-sender' emails, you should carefully check the email address you were trying to send to.  It's likely that either you made a 'typo' or you've been given an incorrect email address.

  5. Every email server has a "daemon mailer" that is like the "postmaster" .. like previously stated is software not a real person
