The original Google Doodler was Dennis Hwang, Google's Webmaster and chief logo doodler. When Hwang was a junior at Stanford University, his residential adviser asked him to work as an assistant manager at a young startup company whose name was a play on the word “googol,” which refers to the number one with a hundred zeroes after it. At that time, summer 2000, Google had under 100 employees. Hwang's first doodle was for Bastille Day.
