  1. I'll listen more closely. ;)

  2. I have 2 autistic spectrum dx sons.  I haven't gotten squat for either of them besides early intervention services.  Nothing is covered.  We are at this point 50k in the hole to pay for our autistic sons.  Medicaid, denied, SSI denied.  I do know of 1 person who does get SSI for autism, its 84 dollars a month.  This particular kid costs more than a 1000 dollars a month.

  3. Very interesting that people want to already talk about their kids SSI payments.

  4. Michael Weener Savage wouldn't know the truth if it jumped up and busted him in the chops.

  5. Nor I.

    Well Put!

  6. The word 'Truth' and the name 'Michael Savage' don't belong in the same sentence.

But lots of people who live in a little right-wing dream world, and don't know anyone with autistic kids, will be happy to listen to Savage.  They can't handle the truth.

  7. Michael Savage Says 99 Percent Of Autistic Children Are Misdiagnosed Brats

He is the Right Wing Radio Host and he is so ignorant.

  8. I'd appreciate it if you'd post a link to an article so those of us like me who haven't heard of him could read it. I have Asperger Syndrome and I haven't heard of him.

  9. Autism is a difficult disorder to diagnose. Many people suffer from some form of it, nearly 1 in 130. It can be mild to completely disabling. With time and study, people are learning more each day how to communicate with autistic children and adults and reach through the fog of this disorder and help them come through.

When that moment of clarity comes through, it can be one of the most wonderful moments in that child's life and the life of his or her family. Caring teachers, friends, playmates and family members can work wonders, have and do.

Please do not preach a gospel of hate, or idolize those who do, it doesn't serve you well. If you knew anything about Autism, believe me, you would not have asked this ridiculous and rude question.

  10. I'll have to listen to him more.  I'm usually listening to music on the way home, but I'll switch over to AM a little more frequently now.  Ya, he can be extreme on some issues and may say certain things to provoke a reaction, but his core beliefs are dead on.

Autism and ADD illnesses being pushed heavily so that the drug manufacturers can get more money...does anyone NOT believe that this is what's happening?  Come out of the cave, people...they're just shadows...

  11. Savage is totally qualified MD who happens to see the other side of the coin and I think it is refreshing to open up discussion on this topic which appears to be rather mysterious and an easy niche to put kids in who seem to lack social graces. He likes to label kids with this diagnosis as "spoiled brats."  I think they just do not connect with their parents and surroundings as there is nothing there to connect to. It doesn't say much about the society we have created as adults. Maybe we have the problem, not them. The kids are innocent. They didn't ask to be born. It's up to their parents to provide an environment that is loving, friendly, nuturing and engaging. If that is missing, you end up with a socially disconnected kid.

  12. he did not tell the truth

as one with aspergers syndrome            a form of autism i would like Micheal savage    AND YOU to have to deal with the sensory issues i have day after day

  13. If one were to have bothered to listen to his commentary in its entirety they could've logically concluded that Savage was expressing his opinion that there are many kids who have been labeled as having autism, ADD, ADHD, etc... who have been misdiagnosed.

Now, - does he have a valid opinion?

I, for one, feel that the field of psychiatry/psychology has manufactured many of these 'diagnoses' for little or no other reason than to remind us that the field is, indeed, legitimate, and not 'quack' science.

    Why would this be done?

Because, quite simply, - it's difficult to get federal grants to study 'brats'. However, when you turn a 'brat' into ' a child with autism', - the money will pour in.

As for taking Savage off the air, that can easily be done by simply boycotting, or just threatening to boycott, the companies who advertise on his show (in the vein of Don Imus). Let us remember, however, that the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution is set up to protect all forms of expression which do not present the probability of a 'clear and present danger', - and that those forms of expression which are most difficult to protect are the ones we each find...

    ... most offensive.

Please pardon the verbosity of this response.

    Thank You...

  14. Just for fun, let's pretend that Michael Savage isn't an arrogant, obnoxious excuse for a human being....

What qualifications does he have to make such radical comments about autism? Has he spent considerable time in therapy waiting rooms talking with other parents about their autistic children? Has he observed any classrooms for children with autism? Been involved with any research projects that explore autism? Had any discussions with leading experts on autism? Had to sit on the other side of a desk and hear a developmental pediatrician say that your child is autistic? Worked with any children one-on-one who have autism? Has he ever interviewed adults or teenagers who have the condition?

On top of that, has he ever had to watch his child go from speaking several words to being completely silent? Has he ever had to watch other small children play together while his own child prefers to sit alone in a corner? Has he ever had to deal with a child who has such profound sensory issues that wearing a shirt can actually be painful? Has he ever had to fight with a school district over what kinds of services his child is entitled to? Has he had to watch in pain as his child couldn't care less about opening Christmas and birthday presents? Has he ever had to answer a million questions from family members who speak in whispers around your child because they aren't quite sure why he is flapping his arms and spinning in circles?

Because maybe then he can legitimately comment on what 99% of children with autism need, what their parents are going through, what a day in the life looks like for these families. I am sure that Savage fancies himself some kind of hero in an "Emperor Wears No Clothes" scenario - saying what others are afraid to say - but the reality is that if you aren't qualified to speak about the orgin of this condition, then you shouldn't! At the very least, if you are going to come out and make wild claims that you know are going to seriously hurt people, then you should at least have some kind of evidence to support it. And an overactive ego is not evidence, although I am pretty sure that Savage doesn't get that.

As if families dealing with autism don't have enough to deal with.
