Question:

Who is higher up on the ladder?

A couple of my friends and I were arguing about the way that the United States government works. We were talking about Obama's experience vs Sarah Palin's experience in office.

Which is higher up on the ladder, a United States senator or the governor of a state? Who has more power? Does three years in the Senate trump two as a governor or the other way around?

Thanks.

  1. A governor is higher up the ladder.  They operate alone, run a state, put together budgets, push bills through, veto them, ect.  A senator, while important is one of a hundred.  This is why, most of our presidents have been governors prior to becoming president.

  2.   A Senator is a part of the legislative Branch of Government. This

means that their job is to make laws. They have to have some idea

of why a law needs to be made and they also have to listen to what

their constituents, the people who they represent, want and act

accordingly. The Governor of a state is the Chief Executive of the

State. They have to run the operations of State Government. Provide

Leadership, when needed, in many areas, from getting foreign

countries to invest in the state to provide leadership in cases of

natural disaster, something our current president could have been

helped if he had taken any lessons. The job of a president is

somewhat but not exactly to the job of a Governor. Obama had

experience on the State level , State Assembly, and was a Local

organizer before that. The job of the president is to 1st get himself

nominated by his /her party with a chance to win the General

Election. Obama, it would seem, has done a good job in that area.

        Hope it helps.   Packers.
