  1. Nobody - the German monarchy ended after World War I.

Also, the German Empire was never a single monarchy; it consisted of the kingdoms of Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony and Wurttemberg.

So not only are there no German princesses NOW, there never WERE any German princesses! They would have been Prussian or Saxon princesses.

  2. Many years ago, as was the European custom Germany did have a royal family, however it has been many years since anyone has sat on that throne.  In your BFF's mind she probably is a princess, with her own throne and crown jewels, but we all know that is a fantasy.  She may even have legitimate German heritage, she is not alone many folks out there can boast of that.  I really don't think that you should feel down about yourself because you are in your right mind and know who you are and quite comfy in your own skin, not wanting to plant your own plastic family tree

  3. Till the late 19th century Germany consisted of dozens of small sovereign states. (Some of them were so small that there was a joke about one that had a rearing horse on its flag: people said that it was only rearing because the principality was too small for the horse to put all four feet down at the same time.)

Unlike British royalty and nobility, which had a rule that only the head of the family had a title, in the German states all the sons and daughters of a ruling prince were princes and princesses. there were hundreds of them at any one time. So a princess in Germany was never as important as in Britain where only the monarch's daughters and daughters-in-law have that title.

So your BFF may quite possibly be a German princess, if she is a German national; it's just not that big a deal. If you want to know for sure, just ask her what state exactly she is a princess of. If she comes back smartly with the name of a German state, e.g. "Mecklenburg-Strelitz", "Baden-Durlach", or "Schaumburg-Lippe", you can easily check out the name and title of the ruling family of that state. If she looks blank, she's making it up.

  4. There is no royalty in Germany- the nation has no need for it being the most powerful in Europe.

  5. there is no german monarchy - it's a republic.

The last German monarch was Kaiser Wilhelm - that ended in 1919.
