Bilkis Bano! She was raped and eleven of her family members including her son were killed by Modi's goons in the last Gujarat riots but she didn't lose hope and kept fighting to get justice till finally seven of the criminals involved in this incidence were sentenced to life imprisonment.

Though many feel the punishment was still mild, at least she got justice to some measure. She was supported in her cause by many noble people from all the communities and walks of life and her case up to some extent re established people's faith in Indian Judiciary.

Her will and determination sets her as an example for other oppressed women and makes her a deserrving candidate for being the Indian of the year 2007.
