Who is jesus? son of god? or son of man?

in the bible (KJV or RCV), there are two main terms are been using to describe jesus which are "son of man" and "son of god". the term "son of man" is used for 83 times to describe jesus and "son of god" is used for only 30 times in the bible. 83 - 30 = 47 mistakes?

some of the christian scholars would say that, jesus is the son of man but not an ordinary son. he's the begotten son of god. so, he got two personalities here.

so, who is jesus? why he is so popular? he never claimed to be god?

in matthew 1:16,

"and jacob begat joseph the husband of mary, of whom was born jesus, who is called christ."

in luke 2:21,

"and when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called jesus.."

in jon 5:3,

"i can of mine own self do nothing.."

what are these? god came out from human womb? god is circumsised? powerless god?

  1. I'm a Christian, and I'll try to answer this question as best as I can. Jesus is the Son of God, and Son of Man means that He is man. The trinity is that God is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and Jesus is the Son.

  2. True God and true man!!!

  3. The phrase, "son of man" refers to a passage in Daniel. This passage is a prophecy of the coming Messiah, and in the message Daniel refers to the Messiah as "The Son of Man".

So really, Jesus' title as "The son of Man" is not emphasizing his fleshly weakness as a mortal man, but is making a claim to divinity.

Let me look up the passage now...

    -Edit-

    Daniel 7:13-14

"  13"I kept looking in the night visions,

And behold, with the clouds of heaven

One like a Son of Man was coming,

And He came up to the Ancient of Days

             And was presented before Him.

14"And to Him was given dominion,

             Glory and a kingdom,

That all the peoples, nations and men of every language

             Might serve Him

His dominion is an everlasting dominion

             Which will not pass away;

             And His kingdom is one

Which will not be destroyed. "

  4. We're all God's Children, He was the First To Overcome the flesh.

  5. both.

  6. Son of man. If he even existed.

  7.   Jesus Christ is God;

deity is the only explanation for all that He was and all that He did.

1] He was pre-existent with the Father [God]. The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. [ John 1:2-3] [see John 17:5; Colossians 1:17]

Jesus is the Son of God; His ememies admitted; Jesus said, God was His Father, making himself equal with God. John 5:18

Peter confessed, thou art the Christ, the Son of God, John 6:69

  8. God the Father sent Jesus into the world as 100% man...hence son of man...Jesus emptied His glory to become a man to accomplish a mission....but His origin is divine, ie the holy ghost overeshadowed the blessed Mary, and  so when He ascended up back to the Father Jesus recieved back again the glory He had with the Father 100% divine. No problem

  9. Jesus is a guy who is dead and since there is no god, he is the former son of a Palestinian Jew, probably of the name, Miriam.

  10. Isaiah 9:6 (KJV) 6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Daniel 7:13 (KJV) 13I saw in the night visions, and, behold, one like the Son of man(Jesus Christ) came with the clouds of heaven, and came to the Ancient of days, and they brought him near before him.

John 8:58 (KJV) 58Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I AM.

Exodus 3:14 (KJV) 14And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.

Jesus Christ is 100% God, and 100% man. the title Son of God refers to both His divine and human nature.

many muslims and jews have a problem with this because at first glance because we say a trinity they seem to think that we are refering to three Gods, Father , Son and Holy Spirit. but they are counting 1+1+1 = 3, where I like to think of it as 1 X 1 X 1 = 1 !

  11. You will go crazy if you try to resolve this issue by consulting the Bible only. There are verses that can only mean that Jesus is God.

There are verses that can only mean that Jesus is a human, separate from God.

There are verses that seem to sit somewhere in the middle.

That's why there was an argument that lasted for centuries about how to view this Jesus. Finally, at Church Councils at Nicaea and again at Chalcedon, it was decided that Jesus is to be viewed as fully God, and fully man, both together at the same time.

They were very much aware that in our flawed everyday experience, one plus one equals two, but in the scope of eternity, and in the realm of divine control, there need not be a problem with Jesus being fully human and, at the same time, being fully God.

If you want more information, get some books on the subject we know as Christology, which is the study of what the Church Fathers and the scriptures teach us about the nature of Jesus' substance.

  12. I answered a question for a man with the screen name Mr. Inves.  His question was "Jesus=Holy Ghost=God?"  You may wanna go check it out and make you some notes if you really are seeking the truth from God's word.  I gave him a lot of scripture to look up and study it out for himself.  You can do the same.  I have found studying and reading it for yourself is the best way to get to the truth and get a greater understanding.  Happy hunting!

  13. Jesus was 100% God and 100% man. Emmanuel means God with us. In John the first verse is, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God". Then in John 1:14 it says, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us" There are many other references to Jesus and God being one and the same. God is in 3 parts, also called the Holy Trinity, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
