  2. Michael Collins played a major part in Ireland's history after 1916. Michael Collins had been involved in the Easter Uprising in 1916, but he played a relatively low key part. It was after the Uprising that Collins made his mark leading to the treaty of 1921 that gave Ireland dominion status within the British Empire.

  3. agooddub's answer pretty much hits the nail on the head.

Collins is also known as 'Ireland's lost leader', and brought the British government to its knees in Ireland, forcing them to listen to the Irish people.

  4. He's the guy who signed the Treaty with the English to establish the first Irish Free State. But he done a deal for only 26 of  the 32 counties, leaving 6 of the Ulster counties under British rule. This started a civil war in Ireland.

He was appointed Commander in Chief of the Free State Army but was ambushed and killed in Beal na Blath in Co. Cork by the  Irish Republican Army (IRA)
