I mean, both are trying to bankrupt the U.S. and the rest of the world based upon the faulty theory of Global Warming?

P.S. the GLOBE has not warmed since 1998

  1. I would vote for gore.   remember he has a jet.

  2. It's appalling that there is so much arrogance, ignorance and naivete' about such an important subject. Nobody's trying to 'bankrupt' the U.S. and the rest of the world. That's already happening because of the way we've squandered Earth's natural resources.

I don't know where you get you 'facts', but the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration has documented - through scientific research and extensive study - that 1989 was the hottest year on record, just one year after Dr. Hansen's original testimony in 1988. Since then, fourteen years have been hotter.

So, unless you can provide a source that disproves the data from NOAA, I would be inclined to reject your statement that the GLOBE has not warmed since 1998.

The problem with 'naysayers' is that they don't want to listen to the dangers posed by global warming because they don't want to conserve energy; sacrifice their gas-guzzling SUVs or Hummers; reduce their standards of living, or do anything else that might interfere with their own personal profit, comfort or convenience.

    They choose to continue to squander energy rather than conserve it; over-fish oceans rather than revive exhausted sea lives; live in the squalor of landfills rather than REuse, REduce and REcycle; kill off other plant and animal species rather than admit that they're not the only species that has a purpose here on Earth; deny the reality of the global warming/environmental threats rather than do something sustainable for their own children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren; chop down the rain forests rather than give up eating cheap BigMacs; destroy the mangrove forests rather than not build on beach fronts;

pollute the air with more vehicle emissions rather than carpool or use mass transit; poison the waterways rather than prevent more oil spills; cause polar bears, caribou and remote Eskimo tribes to become extinct rather than not allow more domestic oil exploration; buy more plastic junk they don't need from WalMart rather than minimize the amount of petroleum-based plastic that's manufactured; buy more chemically-preserved foods rather than eating all-natural products produced by local growers, and throw their waste in dumpsters rather than take it to a recycling center.

Who is more dangerous? Certainly not James Hansen or Al Gore. The most dangerous people on this planet are the people that only think about their own creature comforts instead of understanding the core of the global crisis we are about to face.  -RKO-  06/24/08

  3. You are absolute correct in noting that there has been no warming since 1998.  That is the year global warming, this time around, stopped.

I think Al Gore is more dangerous.  Even if he believes some of what he's saying, it is still misinformation drawn from very incorrect (conveniently altered??) data.

  4. I don't think either one of them is as dangerous as people who obviously misinterpret data and then presume to state absolutes based on those incorrect interpretations.

  5. I think bunk like the crud y'all put on Yahoo! Answers is more dangerous than anything else.

Sheesh these so called "skeptics" and Al-haters... I'm not so sure you aren't all 65 year old men sitting in a think tank somewhere pretending to be teenagers?

  6. GLOBE ≠ Surface Temperature

You seem to be under the false impression that just because some (not all) global average surface temperature datasets haven't exceeded the statistically unusual temperature of 1998, that therefore the entire GLOBE hasn't warmed. That's simply not the case.

The GLOBE is made up of ocean, ice, atmosphere, dirt, rocks, etc.  Some of the additional trapped heat energy (from anthropogenic greenhouse gases) have gone to the ocean, some to melt ice in glaciers, some to increase the mean temperature of the ground, etc.

  7. Ignorance is dangerous .

It prevents people from rational action

James Hansen or Al Gore at least have some positive effects

as far as the Environment is concerned

You talk as if global Warming is the only environmental happening we have to worry about.

    What about ,deforestation,over population

crop loss, water shortage, desertification.grand erosion ,contaminated air ,water and soil.

Global warming is but one in that cue

And ignorance is the main culprit as well as not giving a d**n.

    Are you dangerous ????????

  8. Global warming is not a faulty theory. And the GLOBE has warmed since 1998. Where do you get your information? Are you crazy?

  9. AL is hooked up with big business...cap and trade?? lol

  10. Bob, it's "neither is" - except that both are.

I would answer Dr. Hansen simply because more people believe him, as he has that "Dr." title.

As for 1998, you're right, and 2008 is within or below the flatline trend since then.    But they will just adjust their story accordingly.   Back in 1999 all we heard was that "1998 was the hottest year on record, with more hot years to come."     Then a few years went by with 1998 still being the hottest, and we were told to look at the five year average.

That will soon become the ten year average.

    Then it will be 15, then 20 - - - - -

  11. Yep!-- I got up this morning dumped 2 quarts of motor oil out the back window of house-- cranked up my BBQ pit-- started up the 12 cylinder diesel engine in my 4 wheel drive truck--

Then I went to Wal Mart to get 45 more little plastic disposable bags to use -- and left the diesel idling outside while I shopped.

On my way home I decided to eliminate 3 bird's nests-- with Mama bird and baby bird still inside -- I hate birds--(using the shotgun- mounted in the back window of the pickup)-- then I got 4 gallons of DDT left over from the early 1970s-- that I have been meaning to get rid of--- and poured it into a nearby ditch that runs into a lake near my house.

By this time the BBQ grill was smoking the entire neighborhood up--like crazy-- from the deer meat from our hunt last week-- I almost burned it up.

After drinking a few beers me and my buddies went back down to the creek to kill a few frogs.

OH-- almost forgot here is quote right off NOAAs web site:

    NOAA quote:

"Are we barreling down a runaway route toward climatic catastrophe, or will the future bring relatively benign changes that will not threaten society? The accumulation of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere will almost certainly cause Earth's surface temperature to rise. But we do not know how quickly the planet will warm or how that warming will affect different regions of the globe. Answers to such questions will only come through intense research into the mysteries of Earth's climate system."

Does the above sound like the issue is "settled"  "science"??

Bob-- I think we quoted the same one!!! Ha.  !!  Nope your quote is a little different--  :)

  12. Global Warming isn't false. Have you looked at satelite pictures of Greenland lately? Well, if you do then you'll notice that pictures from years earlier have more ice, and pictures from today have less ice. Don't go around chanting "Save the polar bears! Save the plar bears!" becuase by the time that Global Warming gets to be that bad (I think; I'm not totally positeive on what I'm about to say) an Ice Age would have reached us and the earth would be back to the way it was and we'll be going out there with fires melting the ice again *giggle*. Okay, here is some facts though. By the time that all of the polar ice caps melt away the ocean would have risen another feet. The hurricans are going to be fiercer and most likely strike New York City and flood the place. (Just like on Day After Tommorrow). But not all of the melting is coming from the sun, and plution, and bladiblahblah. It's also GOING to be from the "people" (not sure who) bringing pipe op from the bottom of the ocean where 40 degree F. water is so that they can aircondition the houses. But where is all of that water going to go? Right back to the ocean causing what? The oceans to get hotter. Then what? Everything will speed up and the earth is going to "Die" (I personally don't think so) at a faster rate. (I do think that the ice will melt faster and the hurricanes will be worse *sigh* *cry* *laugh*)

  13. Neither is dangerous.

And their absence would change nothing.  The scientific evidence is what's important, and it's overwhelming.

EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us.  The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

The temperature has warmed on an average basis since 1998, which was simply one unusually warm year.

BOATMAN1 - Since you like NOAA reports, check this one out:

""We know global warming over the last 50 years is primarily due to human-induced increases in greenhouse gases; in conjunction with this increase in global temperatures, we've observed in North America a number of changes in extreme weather and climate events," report co-chair Tom Karl, director of NOAA’s National Climate Data Center, told reporters. "We expect these changes to continue into the future as greenhouse gases continue to accumulate in the atmosphere, and the planet continues to warm."
