Who is responsible for removing a hold on my credit card? I stayed in a Hilton Inn about 6 weeks and there is?

a $50 hold on my card. I have contacted the hotel several times and then the credit card company. The credit card company said I have to have the hotel fax my length of stay and "folio number". I gave these to the hotel and was assured they would take care of it. Who does the responsibility actually lie to get a hold removed. I had used the card to pay in advance for the room and then had no charges while I was there? Anybody else had this problem with credit card holds? The hotel says the hold was removed about 1 day after I checked out.

  1. This is actually the hotel's responsibility.  Holds on credit cards are supposed to fall off within 7 days.  If the hold is still there, that means the hotel keeps running it thru for the $50 hold.  Not sure why they would do this, unless to insure they are paid by the credit card, or if possibly there was some type of damage, stolen property, etc  that they are trying to put a bill thru for.  I am not saying you did any of the above things, but maybe they have found something that they are trying to make you responsible for.   ***

  2. Don't call.  Send a letter to your credit card compay.  Briefly outline the problem and that you have contacted the hotel who insist they removed the hold.  There shouldn't still be a hold after this length of time and your credit card company has the ability to resolve this.

  3. If the hotel says they already removed the hold, then have the hotel send that to you in writing. You can then contest the hold with your credit card company and force them to release it.
