I mean "the queens bodyguard" are yeomen aren't they - purely ceremonial, hence who is responsible for her actual security - The Metropolitan Police? The Army? Obviously their are the uniformed police and soldiers, bit what about the suited secret service type men? who are they? Gordon Brown was around my way the other day and he had loads of them.

  7. Royal and Diplomatic Protection Squad of the Metropolitan Police. When uniformed, identified by their red police cars. Always armed. When police wore tunics, they'd have no belt on to allow quick access to their sidearms. Trevor Lock, taken hostage during the 1980 Iranian Embassy Siege, belonged to this unit, and concealed his revolver throughout the entire event.

  8. The queen can employ anyone from ex service personell like the SAS or flying squad members or private contractors.

Historically it was the jewels that had more protection..by beefeters in the tower of london! but today the army guard (with busbys) the queen outside her palace, horse guards too!
