  1. What do you think yourself?

Galileo claiming the sun rotates the earth, because he observed this fact.

The Catholic church claiming the sun rotates the earth, because stone age goatherds thought they observed that fact and wrote it down in a holy book.

Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I rest my case. ;-)

  2. As more and more was discovered about he cosmos astronomers were forced to add more spheres, permutations and exceptions to reconcile observations with the geocentric cosmology supported by the church.  Galileo's heliocentric theory of the solar system was simple and explained all observations (as it continues to do).

  3. Galileo was right. We know that the earth revolves around the sun, and that that the earth is not at the center of the universe. I am sure that all five of those verses were not misinterpretations, they were simply wrong.

There is an interesting article about it with much more information here: http://holzstukka.proboards81.com/index....

  4. about what?

  5. Because he was right. Seriously. It would be a lot harder to defend the catholic church...

  6. Galileo is right in claiming that the earth revolves around the sun and the earth is not the center of the universe. The Church was wrong but they were accepting teachings that were held as true for 1000 's of years and Galileo was right in explaining the right theory. Since then the Church has recanted and Galileo declared right

  7. The Catholic Church

  8. Galileo

  9. Galileo was right.

he said that the earth was round and it was when the catholic church would not agree with him. they thought he was going against the bible.

galileo used science and his surroundings. he used observations and inferences to create his theory. he had many facts to back him up while the church used only faith.

Galileo also observed surrounding planets and saw that they were round.

He contributed greatly towards science and is absolutely right over the catholic church that had nothing to back them up

  10. Galileo... (Science vs Faith, science wins)

geocentricity vs heliocentricity- heliocentricity wins.. other planets exist.. earth is round not flat... I forgot the others

PS the roman catholic church just got a little tricky and realized that there is no limitation on "gods creative powers"... so they just explained everything in the universe.

  11. the catholic church is infallible only in faith and morals, in all other subjects no one is forced to believe or disbelieve, so go for it

  12. of corse Galileo he did not wanted his monopoly and he had his own mind, he doesnot cheated from any where it was all his own experements the catholic church was based on books and very old sayings t\and much of them was a bit wrong

  13.    Galileo is right.  The Church belief and teaching of that time was that Earth was God's devine creation and was at the center of creation and that everything revolved around the Earth.  It was heresy to say that the earth revolved around the Sun.  But, Galileo proved with observation and with mathmatics that the earth and all of the planets revolved around the Sun.
