i dunno what the guy who answered the question before me is smoking but... steve bartman is the guy who caught a foul ball in the playoffs. he grabbed the ball out of alou's hands. so that meant the inning is not over yet. the next pitch, he batter hit the ball which caused the cubs to lose. the cubs went on to lose the next couple games and get eliminated.

if steve hadnt gotten in the way, alou would have caught the ball and the cubs would move onto the next stage
