  1. That's Murray de Vere Beauclark--not just plain Beauclark; and yes, numbers 15 and 16 are lining up for the title: the heir apparent is Charles Francis Tophame de Vere Beauclark, Earl of Buford (1965), and Lord Buford's heir apparent is James Malcolm Aubrey Edward de Vere Beauclark.

Oh, btw, we can be pleased that Charles II didn't let poor Nellie* starve.

Response to Magpie:  Do you mean Louise de Kerouaille?  Nellie reputedly exclaimed that she was the Protestant wh*re when mistaken for Louise.  Of course, since Charles II, a death-bed Roman Catholic, acknowledged 18 children by 14 mistresses (or is it the other way around), it's a wonder if the "Merry Monarch" kept a running tally in regard to their religious preferences.

A "deathbed Catholic," or a deathbed anything else, is an individual who makes a professional of faith on his or her deathbed. Charles II apparently called for a Roman Catholic rather than an Anglican priest as he lay dying (at least according to two of my sources); other sources conclude that Charles agreed to became a Roman Catholic in 1670.

*Nell Gwyn was a Protestant mistress of Charles II who was suitably rewarded for her bedside manner with the title Duchess of St. Albans.
